SITE SELECTION AND FIELD SEASON

The first survey for appropriate deep ice core locations started in 1996 with a shallow ice core (TD 89 m). The TALDICE project started in the 2003-04 season, when Italian ITASE vehicles were moved to the Talos Dome from their previous site (31deposit). The camp was built in 2004-05, the same year the drilling started. The majority of the ice core drilling took place during the summers of 2006 and 2007. The first and last season were used mainly for setting up and dismantling the camp and drill trench. The 1620 m deep ice core were drilled in 76 days, with an average of 21 m per day.
